Triple Ply Search

Why use one search engine when you can use three at once? With Search 3, the screen is divided into three distinct columns delivering results from three popular search engines simultaneously. Google, Twitter and Bing are defaulted, however you can also choose Yahoo and Ebay as options too. This mash-up delivers a clean interface and scannable results.

What is Spear-Phising?

Darren Mott of the Cleveland FBI Cyber Crime SquadHackers posted a tip to prevent the newest way of taking over your home computer. The trend is called spear-phising and it’s a way to gain access to people’s e-mail account using information gleaned from Facebook.

How do they do it? A scan is performed of your Facebook account that gives folks clues to your password. After your email account is compromised, invitations are sent to others asking them to open and install malware. The first tip to prevent this takeover is to change your password to something more secure like a character and number combination not easily deciphered. Another tip is give privileges to each user of your computer. Give kids their own login and password that doesn’t allow them to install software on your machine. Then keep the administrator login in yourself so you can control what gets loaded on your computer.

Did this tip make sense?

YouTube Changing Tune

In the past TV giants would ask YouTube to remove videos in light of copyright infringement, but not anymore. According to the New York Times article by Miguel Helft, “Now they are choosing to claim their videos and allow YouTube to sell ads when you watch them. Then the revue is split between YouTube and the content owners.” He goes on to state that 1/3 of the clips uploaded to YouTube are by fans of the shows. Thus the content is deep and would be impossible to parole, so why not capitalize on it? If you are thinking of creating a business, what a great model to follow.

Do the ads on YouTube bother you or are you used to them now?

Are you in the Cliq?

Motorola’s Cliq smart phone, based on Google’s Android operating system, was released a few months ago. It’s made waves because it’s built on the idea that all communications are one. This is similar to the Palm Pre Synergy concept in many respects, however it connects to more sites and services than any other smart phone. Check out this review of the phone on Cnet.

Social Media Job Strategy

Are you looking for a job? Are you using social media? If you are using social media then you need to be careful what you say, confirm you’re on the right networks and clean-up your digital presence. If you are not using social media, then you need to start using it to your advantage. Below are three tips to use social media to land a job.

1. Clean-up Your Digital Path
Do you have that old MySpace account you never use? Are you there strange pictures on your Facebook page you’ve posted? I suggest if you clean-up anything that may raise any eye-brow by a potential employer.

2. Join The Right Networks
The top four networks are Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn. If you are not on LinkedIn, sign-up and start make connections. You would be surprised how you may be able to connect to future employers.

3. Talk As If Your Mom Were Listening
You may think because your conversations are protected behind privacy control but the reality is there are ways for potential employers to read your posts. I have heard where employers setup hidden accounts, get you to accept, and then read your posts. Just remember, you should speak as if your mom was listening.

No Texting While Driving Pledge

Texting While Driving

Nationwide found that nearly 40% of teenagers admitted they send and receive text messages while driving. The same group said they have been hit or almost been hit by a driver talking on the phone. A group called Mom Sends The Message has launched a viral campaign to pledge to not text while behind the wheel.

Their pledge says, “Driving while distracted can be more dangerous than driving drunk. As moms, we want safer roads. We know the time has come for us all to recognize the risks of distracted driving, to be more responsible and to mind the wheel.”

Here is their pledge:
We pledge to model safe behavior when we drive.
We pledge to set firm house rules on texting and phoning while driving.
We pledge to help spread the word on the dangers of distracted driving.

What can you do?
Become a friend of theirs on Facebook

Print off the Car Window Sign and get involved.
