Recycle old electronics

25 Jul

Instead of throwing away that old piece of technology, did you consider recycling it? Believe it or not, there is a local electronics recycling facility close to you. EIAE is an organization that is dedicated to recycling electronics. Search their free database to find a recycling facility near you.

Why recycle?

  • Old units still have life
  • Reduce lead and mercury from landfills
  • Put technology in the hands of less fortunate
  • Economic and energy reasons

Tips when recycling used electronic products:

  • Wipe all data from the unit or make sure company will
  • Be wary if recycles won’t disclose their partners
  • Make sure 90% of device is recycled
  • Prove appropirate facilities
  • Make sure they can take devices

MySpace Records

7 Feb

Looking for new music? Are you tired of the same old stuff on your iPod?
Tom over at MySpace launched his own record label called oddly enough, MySpace Records. He is personally hand picking artists from his pool of talent. As a matter of fact, he recently added Cleveland native Kate Voegele. Her pop-flavored music along with other rising stars can be streamed and purchased online. What are you waiting for?

How much non-mainstream music do you listen or download?

Is technology changing your life?

23 Jan

Sometimes good advice for a business is good advice for life in general.

This webcast features Thomas Mulready of CoolCleveland.com and deals with how podcasting, video casting, blogging and email are transforming your business. Could these things be transforming the rest of your life too?

This was presented by the Northern Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce (NOACC) which is a regional partnership of over 120 community-based chambers of commerce dedicated to helping chambers deliver competitive and cost-saving benefits and services for almost 35,000 member businesses.

Giving is better than receiving

17 Jan

Last December, a girl in north-east Ohio brought warmth to the cold, stark white hallways of local hospitals for the holiday season. Ashley Imbrogno didn’t just become one of local news channel 3 anchor Romona Robinson’s Kids for no reason. She put together a blanket drive that was like no other.

Along with her friends and family, she designed and created unique blankets for hospitalized children in the Greater Cleveland Area. She made deliveries to local hospitals such as Rainbow Babies and the Cleveland Clinic because she wanted to make a difference and bring a ray of light to terminally ill children.

The drive is over now, however 2007’s plans are already in the works. You can contact Warming The Hearts for more information by visiting the official website.

Playaway, A New Audio Format

17 Aug

During my daily commute, I recently started listening to audio books on CD so instead of mindlessly listening to Howard Stern, I can learn something worth while. I recently listened to Love Is The Killer App by Tim Sanders and The World Is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman. Now a company from Chagrin Falls, Ohio has essentially put audio books on an Ipod Shuffle. Findaway World LLC co-founder Christopher Celeste explains that they have created a device called a Playaway which is a book that is preloaded on a digital player. The player is the size of a credit card and they mirror a book cover. They actually look like mini-books.

The player is unique because it works without a separate listening device such as a CD or mp3 player. Instead of downloading a mp3 or buying an audio book on a CD, you just collect these new fangled audio books like you would anything else. Unlike the traditional music player, which give you the ability to load audio onto them, the Playaway player is the book. Why is this a big deal?

It just points to the fact that people are still not ready to give up something tangible to represent an audio book. With explosion of Podcasting, the creation of homemade radio shows that you can download and put on your Ipod, consumers are expressing the fact that they want new unique content. Everything is going digital and now most audio books are being offered on audible.com, but a digital file is not same as an audio book. You can hold your Ipod with the file on it, but you still aren’t getting the artwork you would with a traditional CD or book. Now with Playaway you can the audio, the artwork and the technology!

Look for the Playaway to hit your local bookstores in October this year.http://www.playawaydigital.com/
