Collaborate, Save Time with SmartSheet

Guest Blogger Mike Kimmel gives us his review of a new Excel-like product that will revolutionize the way you work. ~ Marc

SmartSheet is a fantastic collaborative tool that allows for the creation of shared project (Gantt chart-based), and shared task lists. Either kind of lists can be formatted in a number of powerful ways. For example, they can have attachments stored with the file or can send automatic reports to any email recipient.

Smartsheet is very robust. It is integrated with Google Apps, and even has a built in feature that allows you to create a task, and then offer that task out to online talent pools for consulting services. It can be branded. It can also import MS Project files and Excel spreadsheets, and export them to PDF or Excel. Furthermore, it has a unique iPad experience, and a unique iPhone experience (two different experiences) in addition to the primary web browser version.

Fund Future Innovations

How do you discover the next great technology product? Are you looking to be the first to get your hands on some piece of history? Perhaps you are an entrepreneur looking to get funding for your project?

Quirky, Profounder and Kickstarter give you the opportunity to fund future innovations. Each site offers the ability for entrepreneurs to post their project, request funding and give consumers a chance to pitch-in. Each project has a required amount of funding that has to be met before the desired end date. The project starts when funding is met and usually a project donor gets to purchase the product at cost.

Forecast: Where Social Is Going

Doug Craver forwarded me what I thought was another location based social application, but this app called Forecast is unique. FourSquare is designed for you to share where you are however Forecast is created discuss where you are going. The app is all about the future so then you can check-in with Foursquare when you arrive.

If you like foursquare, you’ll love Forecast! It is a fun and simple way for friends to share where they’re going. It’s social networking that’s actually social.

SugarSync: Cloud Backup

Want some free backup in the cloud? The cloud is the buzzword for storing your files off your personal machine on the web. I discovered SugarSync and I found it useful.

The website says, “SugarSync makes it easy to backup, share and access your files, anytime, anywhere. With SugarSync you get online cloud storage for all your files. When you make a change or add files on any of your PC or Mac computers, SugarSync automatically syncs your files to the cloud, where you can access them from any Internet-connected device — including your smartphone or iPad.”

SugarSync Account:

  • 5 Gig Free
  • 500 documents
  • 2,000 photos
  • 2,000 songs

Some caveats: Apple is offering a similar deal. You do have to download the program either on your desktop or mobile phone. I was expecting to just access an online account.
