Before making the next big software purchase, check out Source Forge.

You just might be surprised what you don’t have to pay for.

My Home Computers run Win XP, at work its Mac OSX. I even run Ubuntu at times. Sourceforge has software for everybody.

I needed to convert some video files and then make a DVD. At Work the Mac has built in options. At Home I needed solutions. I was able to find open source software at http://sourceforge.net/ for converting my video files and make the DVD with menus.

Everything was found, installed and going within a half hour.

George Jetson here I come.

As the Internet continues to expand into its next incarnation, more and more browser based programs are sprouting up left and right. Leading Hands mentioned Dr. Pic a few week ago, which is a free online photo manipulation program, now there is yet another website called Snipshot that offers the same service.

Don’t send the 300 DPI (dots per inch) digital image straight from you digital camera to your friend anymore, use a program like Snipshot to scale the size of the image down to something more digestible. You know the image I am talking about, if you open in your email, all you can see is the eyeball of your friend. If you are going to send an image, then take the courtesy to shrink it down. The program can pull an image in from your desktop or the web, then scale, resize and crop it.

I like this software, but I think Dr. Pic is better because many of the features that are free in Dr. Pic. you need to upgrade to Snipshot’s Pro version.

You don’t have to be a Photoshop expert any longer to resize images.
Do you need to re-size a photo? Do you need to crop someone out of a photo? How many times have you received a huge image in your email inbox that simply overwhelms your screen? Use Dr. Pic and save your friends the pain of getting a digital image that is just overwhelming.

Dr. Pic is a free photo manipulation application that you can use from the convenience of your web browser. Traditionally you would need to purchase Adobe’s Photoshop program to re-size or crop a picture. A few years ago, GIMP came out as a free open source software alternative to get the image manipulation job done. However now with Dr. Pic, you can let your web browser do all the work.

How do I use the program?
First, you need to either load a picture from the Internet or from your local hard drive. After you load it into Dr. Pic, you can apply a host of features to your photo. After you’ve done your work, you can save to the web or to your local machine.

What do you use to re-size photos?
