Did you know that George Bush did not use email for the last 3 years of his presidency due to a discrepancy in his email records from 2003-2005? Everything that the president communicates electronically is public record, so if they’re not communicating freely electronically, I guess they don’t have to worry about it. Now President Obama has been approved to use a special mobile device to electronically communicate with close staff and friends. Does this mean in years to come we will discover his secrets?

President-elect Barack Obama is doing another presidential first when his team recently announced that he will be holding his weekly addresses exclusively online. Senator Obama has been superior with his use of online technology during his campaign such as texting supporters of his choice as Biden as VP, Twitterring his whereabouts and registering an astronomical amount of online transactions.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (F.D.R.) started the trend back in the 1940s using radio as his medium of choice to speak to the nation, President Regan did the same and now President Obama will use the Internet; he will use the same medium that propelled him into the Oval Office. A new study released by Forrester says that the average age of people watching video online is 35 years old.

Will you watch our new president online or stick to TV?

Looking for a way to stay on top of current events? No matter what you’re into whether it be music, comedy, politics, TV, art, style, or romance, current.com has the latest news you are looking for.

Current.com is an online TV station built by you. This website presents short video clips that give a clear sense of what is happening in popular culture. This site takes updating their content seriously and they are constantly uploading new clips. Current also turns to their users upload to original material too.

What I Like: They gave a face to the website by introducing news host Douglas Cabellero; he keeps you on top of the latest trends at Current.com. My favorite section is their hall of fame; it boasts the all-time best clips.

Will you give this a try or stick to YouTube?

Are you one of thousands of swing voters who are waiting until the last minute to make a decision on the 2008 Presidential Election? If you need help and you are unsure of what candidate is saying what, then logon to factcheck.org.

You may have heard the FactCheck website mentioned in the past. In the last presidential election, Dick Cheney misspoke the fact check URL and said “.com” instead of “.org”. The “.com” URL was overloaded and the website crashed. The owner ended up putting a redirect to the “.org” and the rest is history. Now the website has become a fixture of American politics and a source of unbiased information.

During the final stretch of the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama has strategically placed ads in a variety of popular video games. Among the games that Senator Obama is placing them are Guitar Hero, Madden 09′, Nascar 09′ NBA Live 08′ and NHL 09. This is a first time in a presidential campaign that advertising reached out to another group of potential voters inside the virtual world of video games.

However is political placing ads into video games really targeting a new group? The interesting fact is, according to the Entertainment Software Association, the average video game player is 35 years old, and 49% are between 18 and 49.

Obama started a trend of placing ads in video games. Do you think these ads could sway votes?

This website is currently doing a good job of breaking down and reporting on the status of the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign from all sides.

I like that there is a daily Gallup Poll ticker in the right corner of their website showing which candidate it ahead; right now it says McCain is ahead of Obama. There are also a handful of Political Bloggers that are dialed into discussion about the heated topics of the day ranging from political TV to convention chatter. The editorial cartoons by Wuerking are worth a chuckle too.

A few weeks ago, John McCain stated that he really doesn’t know how to use the Internet and needs help from his wife. After criticism, the presidential candidate said that he is beginning to learn the ways of being online. MeriTalk claims 46 percent of Generation Y believe the next president of the United States should stay in touch with the nation online.

MeriTalk is a new social networking site dedicated to talking about the U.S. government, in this case, the hottest topic is the quest for presidency. The new generation is getting their news from YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and Jon Stewart. Traditional sources like Brian Williams and Charles Gibson are not creditable in the Generation Y’s eyes. This new political social network is looking to tap into that interest.

Is Obama more appealing to the younger generation because of his use of the Internet?

A friend of mine is heavy into the politic scene. Recently he developed a great online system that gets helps local politicians organize their propaganda machine. Believe it or not, the American political world is really just starting to grasp the power of the Internet. The presidential election last year really exploited the power of the Internet with the Dan Rather Blog Incident and the FactCheck.com error that Dick Cheney muttered. These errors could cost a politician thousands of votes or earn a politician thousands of votes.

Now The Institute for Politics Democracy & The Internet is having an event called “How Mobile Technology Empowers Just-In-Time Politics” on September 13, 2005. The event will focus on a comprehensive showcase of innovative mobile technologies that will change the American political landscape. The height of the event will be the release of the book “The Politics to Go Handbook: A Guide to Using Mobile Technology in Politics.” Cell phones, Black Berries, PSPs and Handheld computers are changing the world we live in because they are so portable yet so powerful. Imagine the ads a politician could target on your phone. Imagine the ability you will have to get informed on all the issues. Could the ability to vote on your phone be not that far off? Can we say hanging chads in Florida?
