Blippy Makes Credit Social

How far can social networking go, how about into your wallet? Blippy makes credit card transactions social. I was reading a recent article about Blippy and I was floored by this next level of social networking.

The website asks, “What are your friends buying?” Register for an account, enter your credit card info (which is not kept on record) and share with the world what you are buying. Your Blippy account is updated with what you just bought. Other Blippy users can comment on your purchase. You can tell Blippy what types of transactions you don’t want to go public. It also has a connection with Facebook and Twitter.

As a by-stander, I think this website is cool. Now I can see what other people are buying and if I see something nice, I might buy the same thing. All I can say is that a recent poll stated 70% of lawyers are using social networking in case proceedings. Use this service at your own risk.

Do you think Blippy is too much information?

New Facebook Features

If you didn’t notice, Facebook once again mixed up their interface. Basically the top and left menu bars were simplified and condensed which may cause you strife to find everything right away.

Do you like this new layout or are you wishing you had a choice of the old one?

Twitter Hover Cards

Have you heard of Hover Cards? Twitter is rolling out a new feature that gives you the ability to learn a little bit more about your fellow Twitterer by hovering over their name. Now instead of having to leave the page, you can follow, retweet and find their vital stats in a single glance.

What do they want from you?

How do you think Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube are making the majority of their money? Right now every social networking company wants your information because they are striving to build up their Business Intelligence (BI).

Social Networking sites are making money hand over first from selling your information to third party companies. The more information you type into your profile, tweet or podcast is causing their bank accounts to soar. Even if you have a locked down account, it doesn’t matter because you agreed to each of the social networking site’s legal agreements. They want your information and they can do what they want with it.

Takeaway: Be aware of the information you are typing into your social networking accounts.

What is a Re-Tweet?

Do you re-tweet? Re-tweeting is the act of taking another’s tweet you enjoy, giving them credit, and then reposting it to your feed. If there is room in the 140 character limit, I also like to add a little comment.

I went to the Cool Twitter conference last August and learned some great techniques regarding re-tweeting. For example one tip is that when you get new followers, take a look at their feedback and re-tweet a post you like as an act of gratitude.

How often do you re-tweet? Do you have any suggestions on re-tweeting? Here is post on the science of re-tweeting.

Teens Aren’t Into Social Networking?

Is your kid a fan of Twlight, Taylor Swift, Gossip Girl and Jonas? The other day I stumbled upon a tween gossip news website called Just So You Know (JSYK), that features interviews with the latest celebrities and musicians. What I found interesting surfing the site was a poll that asked “When did you get a MySpace page?”

After voting that I have a Facebook page, I was surprised by the results. MySpace was 10.0%, Facebook 28.5%, Both 22.7% and Neither 38.9%. Statistics from Mashable a couple months ago stated that social networking among teens are too busy sexting, so I guess this poll supports the theory?

Get Your Chat On Your iPhone

Chat rooms have been considered in the same light of highway rest stops these days. However ebuddy is out to change the misconception by creating a smart little application. With ebuddy you can connect all your popular instant message software MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, Google Talk and even Facebook on one single list.

I downloaded the ebuddy app and I like it. The only thing I found annoying, as a spoiled iPhone user, was the fact there isn’t T9 character correction. I found myself typing many misspells.

Download this free app and start the chatting with your iPhone.

How Do You Comparison Shop?

At the conference today, we reviewed e-commerce systems and it got me thinking about websites that compare products. In the past, Leading Hands has reviewed many comparison sites and today I finally heard about Price Grabber.

If you are not familiar with Price Grabber your missing out on a comprehensive comparative rater. Search thousands of products, review user ratings and see products side-by-side. Ultimately, the site aids you to make a clear shopping decision.

Non-Tweet Section Please!

The other day, Disney pop starlet Miley Cyrus decided to quit Twitter cold turkey. Similarly in a recent interview with Drew Barrymore about her directorial debut Whip It, she responded that she is a Non-Tweeter. It started me to think, what if in the future Tweeting was banned from public places just like smoking? Can you have second-hand Tweets like second-hand smoke? Can Tweeting be as addictive as nicotine? Do these constant micro-blogging alerts cause health effects?

Imagine the following scenario ten years from now. You walk into a restaurant, the hostess asks you, “Would you prefer the Tweeting or Non-Tweeting section?” If a customer sits in the Non-Tweeting section and they are caught Tweeting, the establishment and other patrons will have reason to ask the Tweeter to leave. At this time as a society, we truly don’t know the side-effects of Twitter to our health, could it be detrimental?

Do you think there should be a special section in bars and restaurants for Twittering, Facebooking, etc…?

Have You Done A Twit Poll?

Twit Poll is a quick way to conduct polls via you’re Twitter Account. I saw this tool used successfully by a colleague for research, however there a couple quirks with the system. The way its setup it leads you to believe that your poll was Tweeted to your account, however it was not. There is also no way to delete a poll after you’ve created one, what if you make a mistake? All in all the free tool that generates quick results, Twit Poll gets the job done.
