No Texting While Driving Pledge

Nationwide found that nearly 40% of teenagers admitted they send and receive text messages while driving. The same group said they have been hit or almost been hit by a driver talking on the phone. A group called Mom Sends The Message has launched a viral campaign to pledge to not text while behind the wheel.
Their pledge says, “Driving while distracted can be more dangerous than driving drunk. As moms, we want safer roads. We know the time has come for us all to recognize the risks of distracted driving, to be more responsible and to mind the wheel.”
Here is their pledge:
We pledge to model safe behavior when we drive.
We pledge to set firm house rules on texting and phoning while driving.
We pledge to help spread the word on the dangers of distracted driving.

I was texting while driving and i almost ran over a group of kids. I use http://www.drivesafe.ly/
It keeps me focused on road and don’t let me distract by fear of missing important emails and sms. It reads them to me while i can drive with my eyes on road.

Bob, thanks for the tip on Drive Safe.ly, I have tried Dial 2 Do – http://leadinghands.org/blog/dial-2-do-hands-free-text-alternative/. However, I think the point of this campaign is that texting while driving is bad in any form. Whether you are listening to messages or responding to them in another way, it still takes your concentration off the road.
