Do A Jig, Find A Cowboy

Looking for answers? Leading Hands recently pointed you to Quora as an interactive way to get your burning questions answered. The creator of Delicious has now launched Jig, a social media Q&A website. If you are a fan of bookmarking your favorite websites for the world to see, then why not do the same with your questions and answers.

Jig is a site that enables you to socially post questions in a Facebook/Twitter format. You post your “Needs”. You can follow other users. You can “Suggest a Solution”. The best part is searching the site for answers. Jig is the social way to discover and share knowledge.

Social Media Security Plan

Is your company or organization looking to get involved in Social Media? If so, then you need to develop a solid social media plan. In my mind, staying secure in is the key to successful strategy. Below are key points you need to know to build a thriving social network for you business.

TOP TEN SOCIAL MEDIA PLAN STEPS
1. Immediate Threats – document what is the worst case scenario and how to respond to it
2. Marketing Benefits – what are the goals and how can you make $
3. The Devil You Know – establish what users/topics will be taboo
4. Social Media Policy – all folks who participate need agree to the rules
5. Training Is Key – teach all social media users how to use it
6. Set Limits – how many tweets will you make in a day?
7. Educate IT Staff – often seen as a security nightmare, get tech on same page
8. Keep Computers Secure – Confirm anti-virus and malware software installed
9. Privacy Practices – what not to say and what not to do

Web 2.0 Suicide

Are you sick of Twittering? Last year Miley Cyrus pulled the plug on her Twitter account after months of speculation. Social Networking is like exercising. You need to consistently workout 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes a session. The more you exercise, the better your results. If you don’t have time to commit to social networking, then you can now easily pull the plug.

A new website called the Web 2.0 Suicide Machine will erase your social networking account instantly. All you do is login to your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace account and within minutes your site is history. In the past, the process involved logging into each account, finding the delete this account button, and moving through the prompts of the networking begging you not to leave. Now all you have to do is login this online application and end your accounts forever.

Social Media Governance

Do you check social media websites on your own time or company time? If you are using company time, then you need to check your company’s social media policy. If they don’t have a policy you need to create a social media policy so you as an employee know the guidelines.

Social Media Governance features over 100 links to company websites that display their public social media policies. This site helps employers find good approaches to social media policies. Get your company started down the right path in regards to your Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn usage.

Dot Spots Changing The World

Micro-blogging is taking over the world! Leading Hands has talked about Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Friendster, MySpace and the multitude of social media tools that have now successful infiltrated American households. Now Dot Spots is poised to be the next evolution of social media because it’s like a leech that attaches itself to news stories. When I say leech, I have to add that I mean this analogy in the most professional sense.

How does Dot Spots work? You first need to download the Dot Spot plugin for your browser. Then when you find a story on the web you like, highlight a section of it you’d like to make amend and add your Dot Spots (edits in the form of comments, videos, maps, pictures, etc…) to it. Essentially as a Dot Spot editor you can make additions to any story on any website, share them with other Dot Spot users and post them to other social networks. The key about Dot Spots is that it’s an iterative process and your building upon the work of other authors. Dot Spots is like a leech, but a social networking leech on steroids.

Sign-up For a Beta Dot Spots Account:
1. Create your own dots
2. Connect your dots into the news
3. View dots in context
4. Improve other dots
5. Share and vote on valuable dots

In order to see Dot Spots, you need the plug-in and an account!

Note: I just saw that Doug Craver over at Tech Bytes covered this last week, but I feel that it’s such a significant break-through, it should be diagnosed again.
